BME (Biomechanical + Musculoskeletal Evaluation)
Musculoskeletal problems like knee and back pain are common among individuals carrying excess weight. Not only are these problems painful, they can hamper your ability to exercise, making it difficult to shed body fat.
A Biomechanical + Musculoskeletal Evaluation (BME) conducted by one of our biomechanical consultants can greatly help in establishing an exercise program that is both sustainable and effective. Your BME will tailor your exercise program to your specific needs so that you can work out without injury – and without pain.
Your BME begins with a complete 90-minute evaluation of your posture, alignment, gait, muscle strength, range of motion, flexibility, and any pain or discomfort you feel in your daily activities. Our biomechanical consultants have each had more than 25 years of orthopedic experience.
You'll receive personalized exercise instructions based on your unique needs.You'll also receive written step-by-step guidelines and pictures of the exercises for future use when you return home, plus a dictated narrative detailing each exercise's purpose and benefit.
You’ll then receive 1 hour of personalized exercise coaching by one of our university-degreed exercise physiologists. Your physiologist will make sure you’re performing every exercise of your new routine correctly, and will help you design your daily home fitness schedule.
Two Additional Personal Exercise Sessions
You’ll continue the good work you’ve begun with your BME with two additional 1-hour personal exercise sessions. They’re the fastest – and safest – track to a leaner, fitter you.
DEXA Body Composition Scan - The Medical Gold Standard
Even more important than what you weigh is what your body is made of, particularly your amount of muscle mass and fat tissue.
Put simply, you’re much healthier (and better-looking) if you’re 220 pounds with a high percentage of muscle tissue than 220 pounds with little muscle.
The DEXA Body Composition Scan calculates your percentage of lean muscle and body fat from head to toe.
A DEXA scan is also very motivating. Regardless of what the bathroom scale says, you know you’re on the right track. You can feel it, you can see it, and your DEXA results prove it. The results also serve as a baseline for future reference.
RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate)
Having trouble losing weight? Your weight-loss struggles may be related to your resting metabolic rate, or RMR. Your RMR is the number of calories your body naturally burns every day with little or no activity.

Private Cooking Lesson
You know what foods you love! In your personal cooking class, "confess" to our chef and, together, you and he will transform your delights into delightfully healthy cooking. You’ll bring home a whole new repertoire!
Lifestyle Coaching (Psychological Consultation)
Lifestyle coaching at Pritikin has proven very effective in helping individuals evaluate emotional and environmental issues that can lead to unhealthy eating and excess weight. Your consultation will help you take charge of your feelings and your food.
Vitamin D Testing
Vitamin D deficiency is strongly linked to bone loss and may also, emerging research is finding, be linked with other health concerns, including diabetes and atherosclerosis. With testing of blood levels of vitamin D, we will identify any deficiencies and, if needed, prescribe appropriate supplementation to help correct them.
