Physician Supervision

The Thread That Ties Everything Together

Most of us see our doctors in their offices, but at Pritikin - you're just as likely to find our medical director lunching with guests in our dining room, our cardiologist chatting with a group of guests after a workshop, or the endocrinologist stopping by the fitness center to check on a guest's progress. This is "hands on" like most of us have never experienced.

The Pritikin team of physicians, all board-certified in fields such as cardiology and endocrinology, are intimately involved in your entire experience. They're some of the first team members you'll meet, and some of the last you’ll say goodbye to. They'll oversee testing to determine your exercise limits, and work with our fitness team to ensure each one of our guests are challenged within their safe limits.

You'll interact with the physician team daily during small group workshops, but the private sessions with your personal physician are also vital to your success. Observes Pritikin’s Medical Director Danine Fruge, MD: “Outside Pritikin, in the ‘real world’ of medical care, we doctors have little time to listen. About seven minutes. Then we pick up a pad and write a prescription. We can do a lot of harm that way. At Pritikin, we take seriously the Latin meaning of the word ‘doctor’ – which is ‘teacher.’ We spend a long time listening and educating. And the payoff is priceless.
